M18 turns 25: executive search with a heart for people

This year, M18 proudly celebrates its 25th anniversary – a meaningful milestone and the perfect moment to reflect on the journey so far. Since 2000, M18 has been a trusted partner in executive search, with one consistent focus: putting people at the centre of everything we do.

Turnings points and new beginnings

Founder Vivian began her career in management consulting and M&A, and as head of product management in a large corporate environment, she successfully built a strong team. Yet, the birth of her daughter marked a turning point. Vivian felt it was time for a different path and wanted to spend more time with her daughter. She was looking for flexibility, more autonomy and above all: work that energised her. When she connected with executive search professionals, everything clicked. It was an opportunity to combine her recruitment expertise with her desire to make a meaningful difference – for clients, candidates, and herself. On April 1st, 2000, M18 was born.

What it's really about

From the start, it was clear to Vivian that M18 needed to be more than just a recruitment agency. The mission was clear: to contribute to the growth and happiness of others – across every level. Helping clients build high-performing teams, guiding candidates toward fulfilling roles, and fostering a supportive culture for the internal team. Personal wellbeing also remains a key driver for Vivian: “The better you feel, the more you can radiate that to others.”

Key milestones

A first major breakthrough came with first client Mobistar. Their trust gave M18 the opportunity to grow and establish itself in the market. In 2003, the first employee came on board and until 2008, the team grew steadily.

Like many companies, the 2008 financial crisis was a serious challenge. Yet M18 remained resilient. In 2017, the company moved into a new office. From 2019 onwards, the team began to specialise further with a clear strategic focus: to grow, to deepen its expertise, and to guide an increasing number of senior commercial and strategic leadership roles.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, M18 didn’t slow down. Instead, it accelerated digital transformation, launched a new platform, maintained close client and candidate support, and secured prestigious mandates – including the recruitment of the Director of Kazerne Dossin.

A people-centred approach in a digital world

Although everything is becoming more digital, M18 remains true to a personal approach. Candidates always get feedback, even when they are not selected. “Respect for everyone is a basic principle” says Vivian. Technology supports, but human touch remains essential. “You can send hundreds of emails, but one phone call can make all the difference.”

Real growth starts inside

M18 also continues to build a warm, open culture internally. “We want to evolve from ‘nice’ to ‘kind’ – soft on people, but honest and open about what could be better,” Vivian says. That creates an environment where people not only perform, but grow. And growing, that means developing more and getting better and better at what you do.

Eyes on the future

Looking ahead, M18 is entering an ambitious growth phase. The goal? To become the executive search partner of choice for mid-sized international companies across the Benelux – organisations in transformation, seeking commercial and leadership excellence.
Social impact also remains part of M18’s DNA. Through guest lectures, internships and outreach to younger generations, M18 aims to inspire and guide future talent. “Even if we just plant a seed, we’re making a difference,” says Vivian.
